Last week I stepped back into the guide role, only this time it was on the trails rather than the river. Hermosa Tours had booked a Sequoia Tour and someone needed to show the clients around. It might as well be me. This was a great break from my regular job but it was a lot of work. It is not very often that I get to ride 5 days in a row. We did a little over 100 miles during the week. The lineup was Remington, Mill Creek, Kern Canyon, Cannell, Summit, Camp Nelson, and Freeman. One of the biggest parts of the job was the camp and food prep. Good food doesn't just happen. I relied on my old, dormant camp cooking skills I had learned on the river to pull me through and they didn't let me down. It was just like riding a bike, you don't forget. We had a cool group of clients which made the trip great. Also, I got to work with Lisa Lieb. You may have seen her in the last issue of Bike magazine in the "Girls Gone Wild" story. She was very energetic and I think we made a good team. All and all it was a cool experience. I would love to work another one but not next week. I will need to forget how much work it was. Here is a little slideshow showing the stuff this area has to offer.
