Yesterday I experienced one of the the prouder moments of my life. Nathan, Joel, and Karen rode bikes over to the local park while I played sweeper and walked over. Nathan nicknamed his bike, "Big-Speedy" and Joel's bike is affectionately known as, "Lil'-speedy." We also found out that Karen fits a size small Ellsworth Moment as well.
Here's Joel showing off his trialsin' skills on Lil' Speedy.

Not to be outdone, Nathan shows off some skill as well.

The reason we headed over to the park on this day was to see if Nathan could ride Big-Speedy sans training wheels for the first time. Tani told me a story of how removing the pedals and having kids coast on the bike helps kids learn to ride. That bastion of all kid-based knowledge, Sesame Street confirmed this by showing how kids in the Netherlands learn to ride bikes by this method. Off go the pedals.

After just a few minutes, Nathan starts coasting on his own.

Back onto the bike go the pedals and we prepare for launch.

These next few pics speak for themselves.

After mastering the pavement, Nathan decided to charge the hill, mountain bike style.

Watch out McNeill and Olcott, the Akiyoshi boys are comin' on strong.
