Re: El Moro Poker Ride, Saturday June 10th, 2006

Chopper @ MTBR has posted the card locs...I didn't know BVD was legit now:

    Chopper:
If you are familiar with the park this will make sense.
The quickest way to get to all the checkpoints would be to head down the canyon and pass BFI, go up I Think I Can, head back on Moro Ridge and go down BVD into LCWP. From there go up Emerald and back into El Moro and up to Missing Link. Ride Missing Link to and then Down Elevator and up Slow & Easy, then along Fence Line and out the last gate and up to Ridge Park. Turn left and head along No Name Ridge and down No Dogs. That will get you 6 checkpoints. Number 7 is mobile and could be anywhere at any time. Hopefully you will run into checkpoint #7 along the way.
You could also eliminate the drop down BVD and save a lot of time and still pick up the minimum 5 cards.
    So, checkpoints are located:
    Bottom of BFI
Top of I Think I Can
    Bottom of BVD
    Top of Missing Link
    Bottom of Elevator
    Top of Ridge Park
    And Roving

It could be done in 2 hours at a pretty casual pace.

I think the only thing left for us to do is set some type of a trap for you on the trails! Stick out tongue [:P]   As it is, I'm gonna be way tired already after a few cards. There's not much of a chance I'm going to chase down the rover!!!

A few photos from the Poker Ride

I didn't get very many photos from the Poker Ride as I was counting on my bulletcam footage to recap the event. Unfortunately... Due to a technical glitch I lost all of the footage by turning off the recorder before the entire file was written out to the memory card. DOH!

Here are the few photos that I did get.

Registrations were way up, and there were tons of people still starting despite my late arrival.

This jester will be soon dominatrixing eBay!

A two-for-one deal. The rover was temporarily kicking it at this checkpoint.

A sweet custom Denis Duty blinglespeed!

The post-ride festivities were well-atttended as everybody was making their way to the beer!

The Path Bike Shop was a major sponsor for the event.

    Raffle madness!

Hmmm... This is a dilema indeed. :-)

Good time and good pics.  Found the Jester (with ~ 100 others) on missing link.  Imagine those pics are well after the carnage there for her card.

Thanks to all for putting on the event.

btw- my first two cards were Aces and then nothing but cr@p

    The Wheel Deal:

Found the Jester (with ~ 100 others) on missing link.

Maxwell, Lacey, and the rest of our group found her in the same place. I was sure she was never getting out of there.

For the second year in a row, I missed out on the raffle. Last year I forgot money, this year we got back about 30 minutes late. Next year I won't be denied! The tradeoff was some good singletrack, so it all evens out in the end.

At one point I lost my card, but someone found it and brought it to the next checkpoint for me. Ended up with a completely awful hand anyway, so it didn't matter. I didn't get there early enough to find out - who won the top prize and with what hand?

Assume their willingness to return your card was related to quality of your hand Big Smile [:D]

Unfortunately, I missed entire raffle as well (and beers!!!) as had obligation at home.  Basically, jumped in with a friend at last minute and only did 5 station loop (and jester) - bypassed BVD as didn't think had enough time to do down/up and get home in time.  Heard they already had a fairly strong hand (4 of a kind) as I was throwing bike in truck but no idea who/what untimately won.  Did see posting/pic of winner of bike - don't know him but he looked happy (may have been the beers as well)

Re: A few photos from the Poker Ride

Well I (aka: Jester) had a great time. Last year I followed the same route that was the suggested route and everyone caught up with me in the beginning on "I think I can". So this year I figured I would do the course backwards and meet everyone half way through. AND boy did I.......When I got to Elevator there were a few people and we started to get stuck but we jammed down to the bottom and started up "slow and easy" when I got halfway up all these people started coming down. I couldn't figure out where they were all coming from and why they didn't go down elevator???? Well come to find out someone at the top was telling everyone that I was coming up and rather than miss me they all came down!!!

Once I got on "Missing Link" it was the 405 at rush hour!!! I could see everyone at the top of the hill and knew they were all coming my way. Everyone was great and had a good time even though there was a huge line. Cathy was my support staff and I couldn't have done it without her.

All in all it was a super fun time and the beer was so good!!

Can't wait until next year but I will have to think of a great costume to top this years!!
