The US Forest Service is hosting a one-day field trip and planning session for the May Valley Fuels Reduction Project proposal on Saturday, March 13th.

This is one of our most popular and largest mountain bike trail systems in the area. The user-made trail system has been under consideration for addition to the USFS inventory for several years now. It is very important that the USFS understand the importance of the area to mountain bikers as they develop their plans for the Fuels Reduction Project in the area.

The field trip is from 9am to noon.
The meeting is from 1pm to 5pm.

According to the letter sent out- "The purpose of early collaboration among interested persons is to increase public awareness and participation, establish priorities, and cooperate in the planning activities to reduce the risks to communities and surrounding lands."

Description & Registration Information

Please join OC Parks, Irvine Ranch Conservancy and Oakley in removing an unauthorized mountain bike park and trail system in Whitings Ranch. We are seeking individuals willing to removing wooden structures and trails and assist in restoring the habitat.
The location is at the dead end of Portola Pkwy in Foot Hill Ranch
Duration Approx. 3-4 hours

Directions From I-5 Freeway, take Bake Pkwy exit North to Portola Pkwy, make a left turn and proceed past Paloma Drive to the end of the road – park along the street.

Bring sturdy shoes, hat, sunscreen and gloves. OC Parks will supply water and tools.

Thursday Night Luge Rides (For the Month of October)

Hey all, if you're interested, join the Path and me for a Thursday night ride to break up the monotony of the weekly grind. This ride starts October 1 and will continue every Thursday for the month of October. We're meeting a little later to accommodate those of us who have daily evening commitments (e.g. families), commute long distances, or work late.

This is a, "No-drop ride." Each week we'll try to have a lead rider and sweep, but either way, it'll be a no-drop policy. So charge your lights and meet up at Cooks Corner for a loop up the STT and down the Luge. With a lead and a sweep on the ride, it should allow the fast guys to go fast and the rest of the group to ride at a more leisurely pace. Below are some logistics.

Location: Meet at Cooks Corner and ride the Luge loop

Dates: Every Thursday in October (Yes we'll be riding on October 1).

Time: Meet at 8:15 and start riding at 8:30.

UP SJT Down Chiquito 2/22/09

This sunday I'm gonna ride up SJT to cocktail, and then old san juan to chiquito or viejo tie, finish at the candy store. Meet @ the candy store lot at 8am then shuttle down to SJT trailhead. Been off the bike for almost 2 months so I won't be beaking any speed records. Post up if your down :)

Please bring at least 1 non expired non perishable (either canned or boxed) good to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank in Irvine. Hope to see you all there!!

Ride to the Newport Beach Back Bay via the Peter’s Canyon Bike Path and return to the brewery for $9 pitchers and $8 pizzas. Stick around for a free screening of Breaking Away starring Dennis Quaid.

The ride is free and so is the fun. Bring your road bike, singlespeed or fixie and be prepared for a leisurely ride to the coast and back. The total ride mileage is approximately 35 miles and the ride time is approximately 2.5 to 3 hours with multiple areas to turn around and get back to the brewery.

Please insure that you have lights on your bike as it may be dark on the way back.

Sport / Beginner / Expert Men 50+ / Expert Women 40+ on Saturday 9:30 start time

Expert on Saturday at 4:30pm

Semipro on Sunday at 9:30am

Pro Women on Sunday at 12:15pm

Pro Men on Sunday at 1:00pm

The XC Schedule is almost reverse with the Pros on Saturday and the other classes on Sunday.

Fees are in the $50 / race with a $5 surcharge if no USA cycling membership. Also, for classes other than Semi / Pro, there is a $20 shuttle fee.
