    Downhill Bike Geometry Comparison

Here's a little table that compares some key geometry measurements of various downhill bikes (If you've got corrections with actual verified measurements, that would be great):

Bike ETT HA BB CS WB
    Demo** (sm/med) 23.1 / 23.9
    64 13.25 16.75 46.25/47.05
    951 (md)* 23 64/65 13.75/14.5 17.25/17.75 45.5/46.5
    Sunday (md)*** 23.5 65 13.9 17.25 45.25
    M6 (md)**** 23 64.5 13.75 17.25 45.5

    * Geometry gets longer, lower, slacker (e.g. HA = 64, CS = 17.75, BB=13.75, WB=46.5)

**Although the Specialized website has the BB of the Demo listed at 13.5, it measures at 13.25 with 2.5 Minions on it.

***The Sunday numbers are from the 2006 catalog, but I think it stayed the same.

**** Although the Intense website lists the M6 BB at 14.125, the measured BB with 2.5 minions on it were closer to 13.75 (maybe even slightly lower on mine).

that's some low and slack bikes!! the demo might be alittle tricky on massively chunky trails, but it sure seems to rip!  amazing we use to ride backside trails with XC bikes and like 69 degrees:)
a big fan of steep/slidy: still believes its possible to be in control while back tire is locked up.

    Re: Downhill Bike Geometry Comparison

Got to say, newer, lighter, slacker bikes just rip and especially corner better than predecessors. Ultimate bikes for racing, no doubt.

But Dt, I'm with you on concerns w/slow tech chunk. Remember, when my BB dragged on wood feature on Clownshoes? (My life flashed before my eyes). I had numerous such isues on Goats Gully and especially on The Shore. Even sometimes @Mammoth. I think that's why most Canadian bikes still higher BB and not quite as slack. Best thing about low slung, slack bike in rough conditions is you can bail off the back easier!

I think I just talked myself into the need to own 2 DH bikes!

    Reach and Stack

It would be interesting to see the reach and stack for each of these bikes, since ETT can be misleading on DH bikes. I'll try and measure my med. M6 tonight.

Also remember that catalog numbers can't always be trusted.  Sometimes its a typo and sometimes its a marketing white lie.  Wink

I believe the Sunday and the 951 both have a real world 13.4" BB height.

I'm holding out for the second generation Turner DW-Link DHR that will have a 61.5 HA and a 13.1" BB.  Wink Wink

    Re: Downhill Bike Geometry Comparison

My DH bike has about a 66.5 deg HA and a 15.6" BB. The thing is SWEET because I can pedal it UP some real rough sections without the pedals getting anywhere near hitting the ground. ;)

    Re: Downhill Bike Geometry Comparison

...I'd really like to get some real world measurements for the Sunday and the 951, with the type of tires too.  I think with Winston's 3.8-inch Michelins (or something like that), his Sunday must have a BB approaching Danno DH proportions!

Regarding reach and stack, I'm wondering if, since it's a right triangle, if the BB to top of headtube would be a good surrogate to having a couple of 4-foot levels.

I used the BB to top of headtube for quick measurements.

For front center I tie a weight on a string and then drop it down from the BB & headtube and chalk mark the floor.
