Tonight Nathan and I headed up the Santiago Truck Trail to the Luge from Cook’s Corner. Anecdotally, comparing tonight’s temps to my morning bike commute, it felt like it was in the mid to upper forties as we rolled from Cooks: pretty dang cold, but as usual, by the time we got to the to of Modjeska Grade, it was time to shed a layer.

We thought we’d be pedaling the big bikes tonight (Nathan rides a Rogue and I ride a Dare as the big bikes). However, the tube I gave to Nathan must’ve been defective (see “Chiquita writeup”), because his Rogue had a flat rear tire today. Needless to say, we both rode smaller bikes (Kona Dawg and Ellsworth Moment). Nathan must’ve been taking it easy on me tonight as I got to the top of Toaster first. Both bikes behaved great on the climb. Although I’ve been tossing around ideas of possibly getting rid of the Moment, tonight I fell in love with this bike once again…climbs great and descends just about as good as any other bike out there. All that packed into a 33.5 lb 7x6-inch travel bike.

Descending the luge on the Moment and behind Nathan felt more flowy than I’ve felt this trail in a long time. More than trying to hammer as fast as possible, we flowed down the trail under control, but still pretty quick nonetheless.
Here we are back at the cars.

Have a wonderful Christmas to all.
