    Santa Barbara - 09/08/2007

Santa Barbara, CA.  Saturday I had the pleasure of participating in a Santa Barbara run put together by DenMother.  I seem to get up there once a year, but wish it would be more.  Traffic on the way home seems to be the only deterrent.

Friday night I was like a little boy on Christmas Eve.  Tossing and turning with anticipation.

Here the group gets ready for our first run of the day down Tunnel:

    VIDEO:

Tunnel (Please right click and select Save Target As…)

This one stars Nancy with a short guest appearance by Roger wearing black shorts.

    Duration = 6:54

    File size = 59.6 MB

For those of you that have never ridden Tunnel, it starts off smooth for a short distance.  Then you hit the rocks and the trail starts to beat on you.  No problem, this won’t last too long will it?  Yes it does, the trail continues to beat on you until you begin to secretly wish that someone ahead in the group will flat.  A break never felt so good.

Here DenMother tries to express her happiness while wearing her full face helmet on our first run:

    First run action:

    Roger in action:

Time for run number two down Tunnel.

Uh oh, someone’s Socom needs a little TLC.  “Girls bikes”…lol:

    Doublewide lends John a hand:

One of the highlights of the trip for many of us was the opportunity to meet and ride with Gabriella…pictured with her back to the camera:

Her stories and opinions were a riot, especially...

    -         “The SOCOM is a girl’s bike.”  (Poor Roger.  Gabriella rides a SOCOM and loves it.)

The rest I will keep to myself.

As for her riding ability, she was probably the third fastest rider out with us that day.  Though she would turn around during a break and politely ask Auk and I if we wanted to pass.  (I’m sure we would like to, sadly won’t have the speed or skill to do so.)

Looking back waiting for the rest of the group to catch up:

    John and Doublewide:

That’s two runs down Tunnel complete.  At least one person in the group would flat on each run.

Our third and final run of the day would take us down Cold Springs.

Cold Springs seems to allow riders a better flow by spreading out the beatings a little.

    Some of the action:

After the third run I was ready to throw in the towel and go eat.  PHEW!!!

Thankfully DenMother and Roger said it was time to head to the Chicken Ranch.  I felt a second wind coming on.  (I’ve seen the HBO series Cathouse, maybe I’ll get to meet Air Force Amy!)

Sadly the Chicken Ranch only serves dry chicken and Tri-Tip.  Oops, my mistake!

    Great ride guys and gals!

Epic ride, thanks to Winston and others for driving and Roger & Nance for organizing the ride.  It's been a long time since I last went and the trip didn't disappoint.

Thanks for the write up and pics!  Terrible news about Romero though; although it is a fast climb now to bomb down CS.  I'll be back in SB Thanksgiving time seeing family. Always fun to ride Tunnel, CS and SY.  Can anybody else make it Turkey weekend?
