Over Thanksgiving we found out that Jake had an extra week off for Christmas. The timing was great since I was in the process of picking my vacation weeks for 2009. So some phone calls were made to my family that live in Northern Utah, and my Mom, who lives in Boise.
My Mom would fly into Salt Lake and take the "shuttle vehicle" to Kaysville, where we would meet up at my Grandma & Aunt's house.
My Grandma just celebrated her 92ND birthday, and said that this would be the greatest gift ever!
So, Jake and I would pack up the car, WITH BIKES, and make the drive up. He hasn't seen my family in 4 years, so this was going to be a great trip, with or without bikes. But why leave them at home? It is Utah ya know!
We broke up the drive, and stayed in St. George the first night. There was snow all over the local mountains, so riding was starting to look a little dim.
Jake took a few shots from his window, while we were driving. I think they came out pretty "COOL"!

We stopped for a little break in a town called Scipio. Jake bought a pack of Dryers Ice Cream Dips.
It was 25 degrees outside!

We made it on into Kaysville just fine. With snow already on the ground, with more to come, riding the Wasatch Front was out for us.
But riding our bikes is ALWAYS possible!

Power slides anyone?

We did a little townie road ride.
Did I mention it was a bit chilly?

He loved every minute of it!

We did some running around the next day, which included hitting The Bad Ass Coffee Company's http://www.badasscoffee.com/ main store in Salt Lake City. If you like 100% Pure Kona coffee, this is your place! This stuff is freak'n killer!
The next morning, some of the snow had melted. Which made packing up a pile to build a jump in Grandma's front yard, a piece of cake.

Thursday would be the last day spent with my family. It was a great four days, and time we will not forget soon.
We said goodbye to the Wasatch Front, with hopes of getting back to ride it on our next trip up.

Our next stop would be in Hurricane, Utah.
We got there early enough to check into the hotel, track down the Over The Edge bike shop, and get some info on the trails we could ride.
We lucked out! The Hurricane Rim Trail was very near where we were staying. We got a bit of a late start at 5:15pm, but were able to hit a good portion of it before it got dark. It was a GREAT taste of the local riding!

Is this cool or what?

Me, getting a picture of Jake, getting a picture for Chris!

Jake, riding it like he owns it!

St. George - Prospector to Church Rocks!
This morning we would hit one of the popular st. George rides. The Prospector Trail to the Church Rocks slick rock playground.
It's any easy 10.5 mile loop, and hit the single track spot right on for us to end our road trip with!
Jake says, "will you put that camera away so we can ride"!
Look at these views!
This trail was full of flowing, desert single track. There were a couple of sandy areas, but for the most part it was packed down, tacky RED DIRT!
RED DIRT........
And all of that red dirt would lead us to the Church Rocks, slick rock area!
ROCKS!!

No, this isn't Moab. How do I know?
There's no crowd!
The headwind really started blowing in on us for the ride out. But nothing could spoil this little piece of heaven we found in St. George!
Jake gives it a big Kona thumbs up!
And on back to school, and work we go........
This was a road trip that I won't soon forget!
I hope you enjoyed reading it, as much as I enjoyed sharing it with you.
HAPPY TRAILS!!
